Avvaiyar Padasalai Grading Policies
Avvaiyar Padasalai aims in a holistic growth of students. It concentrates on not only learning, but also the culture itself. This is imparted through a highly focused pedagogy. This involves grading the students based on different activities and the weightage given to them as per the below document.
Grade Calculation:
A student’s final marking period grade per semester is calculated as follows: • Tests & Projects – 50 %
o Ex: Trimester exam and one mandatory project per semester
vvaiyar Padasalai Grading Policy
• Quizzes - 10%

Gradebook Codes:
• NTI - Not Turned In. Calculates as a zero. Students can complete for late credit according to the late work policies outlined below.
• ABS - Absent. Calculates as a zero until the student makes up work. See absent work policy below.
• EXC - Excused. The student does not need to complete the assignment.
Test, Quiz and Classwork Policy:
Tests, quizzes and classwork are scheduled for specific days and communicated in advance to students both in class and on the Google Classroom. These assessments are designed to take the time allotted in class. Students are expected to submit within that time frame unless an arrangement is made with the teacher or a student's Individualized time.
Students will not be able to complete quizzes and tests at home or outside of class time. Late penalties will be assessed for students who do not submit assessments within the time frame. Students who are absent for tests and quizzes should schedule a time to make up the assessment with the teacher.
Note: In Avvaiyar Padasalai Quizzes/Tests/classwork are conducted and assessed predominantly through Kahoot. Avvaiyar Padasalai Grading Policy
For practicing the classwork at home. Students have multiple attempts - the highest grade is recorded in grade book. If students earn at least an 80% (and submitted on time – during the class) then 5 bonus points are added to their test grade.
Absent Work make up Policy:
If a student is absent, they have the number of weeks missed plus one to complete work with no penalty.
• Ex: Student is absent from school on week 3.
o Student has Week 4 and Week 5 to complete missed work and should turn it in by Thursday before Week 6.
• Ex 2: Student is absent for Week 4 and 5.
o Student has Week 6, 7 and 8 to complete work and should turn it in by the following Thursday before Week 9
Once this window has passed, late work penalties will begin in accordance with the policies below.

If the student does not submit and notify within 7 days, the assignment remains an NTI (0%) Best Practices for Notifying Teachers:
If a teacher is not notified by the student of late work submission, the work is not considered completed. Students should either use the APS email to politely message teachers about late work or show the teacher late work in class if time permits. We strongly encourage parents to leave this notification to students as a way of teaching accountability and communication. Students and parents should also be mindful that teachers have many students and priorities. Teachers will update late grades within two work days of receiving notification.

Attendance Policy:
It's a fact: Students who attend school regularly learn more and are more successful in school than students who do not. Parents who make regular school attendance a priority also are helping their children learn to accept responsibility, and that’s an important lesson for a successful life. Attendance patterns are formed early in life. Children who develop good attendance habits in the early grades will be more likely to continue them throughout their school career, as well as into their chosen career. Regular attendance is critically important, because students who miss school miss out on carefully planned sequences of instruction. They miss out on active learning experiences and class participation. They miss out on the opportunity to ask questions. As a result, they are more likely to fall behind.
Uninformed absent results in 0% attendance grade for the day, and the rest of the classwork, homework, quiz will be 0%.
Uninformed Tardiness results in reduction of a grade per minute.
Eg:
• If the class is scheduled at 6:30 PM, after 6:35 PM the Tardiness clock will start ticking.
• If the student joins at 6:36, then the attendance score for the day is 99% • If the student joins at 6.39, then the attendance score for the day is 96%
Parent Notified absent results in 0% grade for the day, however the opportunity to make up for the classwork, homework, quiz, and other test are given to the student after discussing with the respective teacher.
Parent Informed Tardiness does not result in any reduction of score. However, if the student is late for more than 30 minutes, a 50% grade will be reduced for the day.
